The JOY Candle

On Dec 23rd John, Erdine, Kelsey and Courtney Mercer lit the joy candle…

We celebrate Jesus as our joy!

When Mary, pregnant with Jesus, visited Elizabeth, who was pregnant with John the Baptist, John leaped for joy inside of Elizabeth because of Jesus’ soon entrance into this world.  In response, Mary sang…

My soul magnifies the Lord, and my Spirit rejoices in God my Saviour, for he has looked on the humble estate of his servant…For behold, from now on all generations will call me blessed; for he who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is His name.

We live in a world that often forgets or limits joy.  Today, we remember the joy that Christ gives us.  Mary rejoiced, and we rejoice in God’s love for us.  Sorrow turns to joy, fear to gladness, and worry exchanged for prayer.

A Day is coming when every knee will bow and every tongue confess that Jesus is Lord. As we light the candle of Joy, let us set aside anxiety and worry, and rejoice in what God has done for us and what we have to look forward to.

Let’s pray…

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, we know the joy you’ve given the world 2000 years ago.  We’ve experienced the joy for ourselves, but see a world who needs to experience the same transformation.  Continue to be the joy in our lives this Christmas, help us show others the joy you’ve given us, and remind us of the beautiful joy we have to look forward to in eternity. In Jesus name, Amen.
